Respectful Dialogue:

PRESENT: Committee members: Lindsay Alexovich, Rhea Brown, Joan Clemmons, Robert Holtz, Barry Phegan, Kay Winer. Others: Kristi Denton Cohen, Lauren Elkin, Rezin Harris, Chua Chao, and Catherine Woods-Williams

Call to Order and Roll Call
Chair Brown called the meeting to order at 12:38.

Motion Alexovich, seconded Holtz, approved 5-0.

Motion Phegan, seconded Alexovich, approved 5-0.
Open Time for Public Expression
- None
Commissioner Clemmons arrived at 1pm.
Presentation: Adult Protective Services (Chua Chao)
- Chua Chao of Marin County Aging and Adult Services gave a presentation about the role of Adult Protective Services in addressing issues that affect older adults in Marin County.
Presentation: 911 First Responder Referral Program (Catherine Woods-Williams)
- Catherine Woods-Wiliams of Marin County Aging and Adult Services gave a presentation about the county’s 911 First Responder Referral Program, which helps first responders connect frequent 911 callers to community resources.
Chair’s Report: Commissioner Brown
- The Marin Food Policy Council has a Neighborhood Garden Initiative that is offering free garden installation for Marin County adults 65 and older.
- Age Friendly San Rafael will host a roundtable at which groups focusing on older adults will discuss opportunities to promote collaboration and avoid duplication of services. The event will take place Nov. 13 from 10:30am – 12:30pm.
Vice Chair’s Report: n/a
- The Vice Chair position is currently vacant.
Marin Food Policy Council: Commissioner Brown
- The Council is not meeting in July.
- In June, Council members toured the Mitote Food Park in Santa Rosa.
BHSA Act Update:
- None.
Staff Report: Sue Krenek
- Most Aging and Adult Services Staff are attending the USAging conference this week.
- A draft Commission calendar is being prepared and will be discussed at next week’s Executive Committee meeting.
Discussion, Voting:
- Vivalon Fall Prevention week
- Planning for FY26/27 and next steps
- As discussed at the June meeting, the committee intends to continue focusing on the problem of social isolation. Chair Brown gave an overview of suggestions that have been received regarding important issues and next steps, and discussion will continue at the September meeting.
Commissioner General Announcements:
- Commissioner Sadowsky: San Geronimo Valley Community Center will be sponsoring a special “What About Age?” exhibit called “Then and Now: Faces of the Valley.” The opening reception is Aug. 9 from 4-6pm.
- Commissioner Phegan:
- Is working with the Larkspur Library to discuss the library’s role as a community center that can help combat isolation.
- Will be meeting with Jason Hatfield about the relaunch of the 911 First Responder Referral Program, and specifically on how first responders can shift from a response to a prevention mindset.
- Commissioner Elkin: A group of participants in the recent District 2 listening session is exploring what type of respite care model might be workable in the district.
Meeting Time and Schedule:
- The current meeting time generally works, but Commissioner Alexovich will always need to leave at 2:15. There is interest in meeting from 12:15-2:15 if staffing and conference room space permit.
- The regular September meeting date falls on Yom Kippur, so the meeting will be moved to Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Commissioner Alexovich departed at 2:20pm.
Business Items for the Next Agenda:
- Continue discussion of FY26/27 priorities
