Minutes Summary

PRESENT: Committee members: Lindsay Alexovich, Rhea Brown, Joan Clemmons, Barry Phegan, Kay Winer. Others: Kristi Denton Cohen, Lauren Elkin, Robert Holtz

Call to Order and Roll Call         

Chair Brown called the meeting to order at 12:33.                                       

Approval of Agenda

Motion Phegan, seconded Clemmons, approved 5-0.

Approval of May Minutes 

Motion Alexovich, seconded Phegan, approved 5-0.

Open Time for Public Expression

None.

Presentation: Ombudsman Quarterly Report (Dan Steckline)

• Marin County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Dan Steckline gave a presentation about types of care for people with memory loss, including discussion of the regulations applicable to facilities that advertise memory care services. Committee members were interested in seeing the California regulations applicable to dementia care, and staff will distribute a copy of Title 22, Section 87705 to the committee.

Chair’s Report: Commissioner Brown

• Met with Supervisor Rodoni 
  • Discussed social isolation and the Commission’s proposed Ageism Resolution. Rodoni stated that HHS approval was not needed for Board to endorse/approve a Resolution.
• Attended a presentation on housing.

Vice Chair’s Report: Commissioner Winer

• Dist. 2 listening session at Marin Art and Garden Center was well attended.
  • Topics of social isolation and dementia.

Marin Food Policy Council: Commissioner Brown

• Coordinating services among the member organizations with a focus on collaboration. 
• Food Bank shifting from an emergency response to a preventative response. 

BHSA Act Update

• None.

Staff Report: Amy Dietz

• Adult Protective Services Social Worker to come to next meeting.
  • APS 101: categories of calls, how many calls, response times of a social worker in response.
• Need help with identifying a Friday site for congregate meals.

Discussion, Voting

• Planning for FY 26/ 27 and next steps
  • Enhance meaningful social connection.
  • Possible collaboration with Housing and Transportation re: Older Adult Homelessness.
  • Work with Neighborhood Response Groups (NRGs).
    • Kristi Denton Cohen and Lindsay Alexovich will bring info to next meeting.
  • Look at voter roster of older adults in each area.
  • Presentation of Resource Guide.
  • Identify purpose of this committee.

• None.

Business Items for the Next Agenda

• Discuss Neighborhood Response Groups.
• How to identify the missing middle.
• Identify places we can go to get more information on those isolated.
• Whether to have an August meeting.
