The Moment to Move Forward

Youth and Young Adult (YYA) homelessness needs assessment

Summary

The Community Needs Assessment for Youth and Young Adults Experiencing Homelessness in Marin County was conducted using a mixed-methods approach that combines local data analysis with input from youth, service providers, and community stakeholders. The assessment estimates that while 111 youth and young adults (YYA) are identified on a given night through the Point-in-Time Count, as many as 2,618 may experience some form of homelessness annually in Marin County, highlighting a significant gap between visible and hidden homelessness.

The report describes the current YYA homelessness response system as emerging, with recent investments supporting increased coordination and the development of new resources. It also identifies ongoing challenges related to the availability of youth-specific housing, access to employment and income, transportation, and geographic distribution of services. The findings are intended to inform future planning and support the continued development of a coordinated response to YYA homelessness in Marin County.
