Get help finding a job or training (CalWORKs)

Need to know

  • CalWORKs Employment Services are free for CalWORKs recipients
  • It is for CalWORKs recipients who are work-eligible
  • CalWORKs recipients are referred to Welfare to Work by their eligibility worker
  • Services can include barrier removal, transportation, child care, interview clothing, supported job search among many other services

Before you start

  • Consider what kind of work you want and any barriers you are facing.
  • Secure child care (talk to your CalWORKs Eligibility Worker)

What to do

  1. Apply for CalWORKs (learn more BenefitsCal portal)
  2. Secure child care (talk to your CalWORKs Eligibility Worker or CalWORKs Employment Services Case Manager)
  3. Ask for transportation assistance if needed
  4. Complete or attend your mandatory Welfare to Work Orientation and Appraisal
  5. Inform your Eligibility Worker or CalWORKs Employment Services Case Manager of any urgent housing needs, crisis, or domestic abuse

What's next content

After referral, you will attend or complete a mandatory Welfare to Work Orientation and Appraisal where you will meet with your CalWORKs Employment Services case manager. You will have the opportunity to learn about our program and its supportive services. You will also have an opportunity to discuss your immediate needs, such as housing, employment, education, and other barriers to employment. 

Staff may set up appointments, connect you with workshops or training, and explain next steps based on your needs.
