Need to know
- Lead is a metal that can harm a child’s brain and body. Even small amounts can cause problems with learning, behavior, and growth. There is no safe level of lead.
- Lead is often found in:
- Homes built before 1978 (paint and dust)
- Soil and drinking water
- Some products like spices, pottery, or cosmetics
- Certain jobs or hobbies
- Most children with lead exposure do not look sick. A blood test is the only way to know.
Before you start
- Write down where you think the exposure is happening (address or location)
- Have your child’s blood lead test results ready, if you have them
- Be ready to share your concerns or questions
