Adult mental health services

Adult behavioral health medication clinic and Crisis Stabilization Unit / crisis services provide support with Behavioral Health and Emergency and Preparedness for Residents.

About this service

Adult mental health services are provided through Marin County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and include multidisciplinary, community-based, and integrated care options designed to support adults with moderate to severe mental illness with who are on Medi-Cal or are uninsured, including people with co-occurring substance use conditions.

These services include case management, psychotherapy, peer support, psychiatric services, and medication support. Specific programs are listed below.

About adult mental health services

A team of multidisciplinary behavioral health professionals, paraprofessionals, and peers who provide integrated care to meet the needs of clients. A network of contracted services is also available. Services are available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese and other languages can be offered through translation and interpreting services. Services are located throughout Marin County at multiple locations.

Adult programs

Adult programs are organized into 2 distinct levels of care - Outpatient Teams and Full Service Partnership Teams.

Outpatient Team

  • BRIDGE — The Bridge (Behavioral, Recovery, Integrated, and Dedicated to Growth and Excellence Program) team provide the lowest level of care in BHRS, primarily in an outpatient clinic setting in two locations - the Marin Health and Wellness Campus (Kerner) and on the grounds of Marin Health (Bon Air).

Full Service Partnership Teams

Full Service Partnership (FSP) Teams employ a 'whatever it takes' wraparound approach to provide services to individuals with serious mental illness based on each individual's specific needs. The goals of FSP teams are to reduce hospitalizations, reduce homelessness, and reduce incarceration.

Each Full-Service Partnership Team has a population of focus described below.

  • Odyssey — The Odyssey Team works with individuals with serious mental illness who are homeless or precariously housed.
  • STAR — The Support and Treatment After Release (STAR) team works with individuals with serious mental illness who are referred by the District Attorney's Office for STAR Court, clients who have graduated from STAR court, and individuals with criminal justice system involvement related to mental health challenges.
  • HOPE — The Helping Older People Excel (HOPE) Team works with individuals 60 and older with serious mental illness.
  • IMPACT (North and South) — The Integrated Multidisciplinary Partnership Assertive Community Treatment (IMPACT) Program provides services to individuals with serious mental illness to individuals who do not meet eligibility for the other population-specific Full-Service Partnership Teams. There are two teams (North and South) that serve different geographic areas of Marin County.

Residential Services

  • Residential services — Residential services works with individuals who are considered 'gravely disabled' under California’s Lanterman–Petris–Short (LPS) Act and are in conservatorship. Staff work with clients who are in residential placement such as Institute for Mental Disease (IMD) throughout California.

Senior Peer Counseling

  • Senior Peer Counseling — BHRS Adult Services also includes Senior Peer Counseling for individuals over the age of 60 who are experiencing emotional distress and can benefit from additional support in their lives. Individuals do not have to be a current BHRS client to access Senior Peer Counseling.
