  • Vaccines prevent disease, keep people healthy, and are safe and effective.
  • We recommend that vaccines be part of your regular medical care.
  • Most vaccines are covered by insruance.
  • You can get vaccinated at pharmacies, doctor's offices, and community clinics in Marin.

What to do

1. Choose where to go

Start with your doctor or a local pharmacy.

2. Check availability

Make sure they offer the vaccine you need and accept your insurance.

3. Schedule or walk in

Make an appointment if needed. Some locations accept walk-ins.

Pharmacies

Best for: Quick vaccines for adults and older children.

Not all pharmacies vaccinate young children. Check before you go.

Healthcare providers and clinics

Best for: Children, multiple vaccines, or medical questions.

Free or low-cost vaccines

Best for: People without insurance and children with Medi-Cal.

Children age 0-18 years: vaccines are available through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program for children who are:

  • Eligible for or enrolled in Medi-Cal
  • Uninsured or underinsured
  • American Indian/Alaskan Native

For uninsured or underinsured adults age 19+ years, vaccines are available through the Vaccines for Adults (VFA) Program.

In-Home Vaccination

Best for: People who cannot leave their home.

Travel Vaccines

Best for: People who need special vaccines for international travel.

Some retail pharmacies offer common travel vaccines, such as Typhoid and Yellow Fever.
