Marin County Medical Volunteer Programs provides support with Emergency and Preparedness for Residents.

About this service

The Marin Medical Reserve Corps (MMRC) is a volunteer program that supports Marin County Public Health. Volunteers help during emergencies and support ongoing community health programs. You do not need to be a medical professional to join.

Who this service is for

The MMRC is for community members who want to volunteer to support public health and emergency response in Marin County. This includes:

  • Medical and public health professionals who want to contribute their clinical skills.
  • Non-medical volunteers who can assist with logistics, administration, outreach, shelters, call centers, and community events.
  • People who can commit to completing required orientation and training and who are willing to be available during emergencies or community health activities.

Your role in the MMRC depends on your skills, credentials (if any), and availability.

Overview of volunteer roles

  • MMRC Team: Active volunteers who train regularly and respond to emergencies and public health needs.
  • Surge Unit: Volunteers who assist during large-scale emergencies to provide surge staffing and support.

Volunteers may help with:

  • Emergency response functions such as staffing shelters or call centers
  • Health clinics and community events (for example, flu shot clinics)
  • Preparedness activities, training, and public health outreach
  • Office or event support and logistics

Skills and training

You do not need to be a medical professional to join. Volunteers may receive training and orientation tailored to their role. Common training topics include:

  • Emergency response procedures
  • CPR and first aid
  • Public health basics

Volunteers may be asked to share professional credentials or certifications if applicable. Volunteers sign up ahead of time so they can help quickly when needed.

How registration and participation work

Volunteers register in advance and complete an application and profile so the MMRC can verify qualifications and contact volunteers when help is needed. After applying, applications are reviewed and applicants receive follow-up instructions. Once approved, volunteers are eligible to join trainings and will be contacted for deployments and community activities.

Volunteers in California typically register through the state-managed system for healthcare and disaster volunteers. For Marin County, additional orientation and local onboarding may be required.
