Need information regarding Representative Payee Services
Need to know
The Public Guardian Office can be appointed by the Social Security Administration to manage funds for people who are incapable of managing their Social Security income.
The appointment of a representative payee can ensure that these funds are protected and managed appropriately.
The Public Guardian Office is only able to accept referrals to provide this service from Marin County Behavioral Health case management.
What to do
If you or someone you know needs a payee or new payee, for general information, please contact Social Security at 800-772-1213.
If you want to request that the Public Guardian be appointed payee, you need to start the referral process by contacting Marin County Behavioral Health at 888-818-1115.
Before you call, please gather information regarding the person's Social Security benefits. Include why the person might mismanage their benefits if a representative payee is not appointed.
