Need to know
Military funeral honors:
- Are provided by the U.S. Department of Defense to honor eligible veterans at burial or memorial services.
- Must be requested directly through the veteran’s branch of service.
- The Marin County Veterans Service Office does not schedule funeral honors but can assist with information regarding the process.
Before you start
Have the following documents available (as applicable):
- Veteran's Death Certificate
- Veteran’s DD-214 (request an official copy from the National Personnel Records Center website)
What to do
- Determine the veteran’s branch of service.
- Contact the branch’s funeral honors office.
- Provide the DD-214 and death certificate.
- Confirm the ceremony details with the military honors coordinator.
