About this service
The Marin County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a federally mandated, state authorized program administered in Marin by the Marin County Health and Human Services, Office of Aging and Adult Services. State certified staff and volunteer Ombudsman representatives provide general information about resident rights and assistance resolving problems for residents living in licensed residential care, skilled nursing facilities, and continuing care retirement communities.

This service is for residents of licensed residential care homes and communities, skilled nursing facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Marin County. It also serves family members, representatives, and others who have concerns or questions about the care, rights, or safety of residents in these facilities.

- Free and confidential services
- Assistance in resolving complaints made by or on behalf of residents in residential care homes and communities, skilled nursing facilities, and continuing care retirement communities
- Information and consultations to individuals and facilities about resident rights, Medicare and Medi-Cal, discharge planning and community resources
- Speakers to groups and organizations to assist in community education
- Witnesses Advance Health Care Directives in skilled nursing facilities
- Iinformation about options and costs for residential care or skilled nursing facilities in Marin County
- Attends resident care plan meetings upon request
- Receives and investigates allegations of suspected abuse involving residents in licensed residential care communities, skilled nursing facilities and homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Marin County
- Ombudsman program volunteer opportunities may be available
How the program operates
State-certified staff and trained volunteer Ombudsman representatives visit facilities, provide information and support to residents and families, investigate complaints, and work to resolve problems related to resident care and rights. Services are provided at no cost and are confidential. The program also offers consultation and education to facilities and community groups.

What to expect
An Ombudsman representative will get back to you and provide information and assistance, help with problem-resolution, or make referrals.
Notes
