Veteran designation on California Driver License and ID Card

Veterans benefits assistance provides support with Financial Assistance, Records, IDs, and Reporting, and Health Coverage and Care for Veterans.

About this service

California veterans may add a “Veteran” designation to their California Driver License (DL) or Identification (ID) card.

This designation provides a simple way to show proof of military service when accessing discounts, services, or programs that require verification.

The Marin County Veterans Service Office (VSO) verifies eligibility and issues the required Veteran Status Verification Form (VSD-001). The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) processes the application and adds the designation to the DL or ID card.
